MORE MONSTROUS MOVIE MUSIC
Presenting the second volume in the acclaimed CD series featuring world-premiere re-recordings of music
from classic science-fiction, fantasy, and horror films! “More Monstrous Movie Music” (MMM-1951) contains an 18-minute suite from Ray Harryhausen's landmark 1953 Warner Brothers dinosaur picture, The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, which was based on a Ray Bradbury story. David Buttolph's powerful score defined the sound of gigantic monsters on the loose in the '50s! The CD also contains an 18-minute suite from Tarantula, Universal's 1955 'giant bug' opus. Herman Stein and Henry Mancini contributed a score that breathtakingly captures the excitement of the Jack Arnold film. Tarantula features cues written specifically for the film as well as pieces originally composed for This Island Earth, Dawn At Socorro, Six Bridges To Cross, Tanganyika, Smoke Signal, and other Universal genre films. “More Monstrous Movie Music” offers a 19-minute suite by Angelo Francesco Lavagnino for the 1961 prehistoric monster movie Gorgo. This colorful score from the master of Italian soundtracks will transport you to a world of musical invention. Finally, there’s Irving Gertz’s memorable “'Main Title” from The Monolith Monsters, Universal’s 1957 movie about giant killer rocks from outer space. A sensational contribution to the art of film scoring that is “rock music” at its finest! Also includes music cut from the films and an extensive 32-page liner book, complete with never-before-released photos, music scores, and information. “More Monstrous Movie Music” has been vividly recorded through close-miking techniques to recapture the dynamic full-orchestral sound heard at the original Hollywood scoring sessions.
